Become a PRO with D.R.I.V.E. - Tips to Master Your G-99 Breakneck Vehicle

Here's how you can become a PRO at the new way to get around in patch 11.1 Undermined for World of Warcraft.. D.R.I.V.E. Unlike any mount that has come before, you can customise the way this ride handles. Here are some tips to help you master your G-99 Breakneck.

Unlocking the G-99 Breakneck Vehicle

You will unlock your G-99 Breakneck after a quick few introduction quests when you get into Undermine after the launch of 11.1. Simply, make your way through the campaign quests and you will eventually unlock your own vehicle!

First of all, this will show up initially as an extra action button when you are in the new zone Undermine, so stick it on your action bars or make a macro for it to quickly access your new ride.

Controlling the G-99 Breakneck

Immediately on mounting up for the first time, you will notice you get given a new action bar with some controls for your vehicle.

Base Keybinds:

1 - Boost - huge movement speed boost for a short duration, requires Turbo to use.

5 - Start Job - Begin a Shipping & Handling task, or cancel a current one.

6 - Eject! - Effectively, your dismount button.

You can change the default key bindings for this bar, as you can see here, I have changed Eject, to the Q key, which made it very easy to dismount quickly, if I reached my objective but was going too fast!

Boosting

It's time to zoom! Pressing the boost button in your vehicle, requires that you have enough Turbo to begin with. Depending on the Turbo that you have installed, the boost will consume a certain amount of nitro. You have the choice of the default balanced Nitro, a bigger boost but less efficiency, or more efficiency but less boost.

There are two ways to recharge your boost bar. The most common way is to drift, this will rapidly will up your boost bar, so you will want to get used to drifting as you move to keep your nitro topped up.

The second way to refill the boost bar, is to drive over canisters conveniently laid out across Undermine, each of these will grant you (X) amount of boost.

Customizing Your Vehicle

You will get access to all of the base mods for the car as soon as you unlock it, but there are various horns and Colours to unlock, as well as mods such as Engines , Wheels and Turbos, that will change how the car handles and functions!

Some of the custom options are tied to reputation gains with the Cartels of Undermine, however others come from rare drops, renown or professions.

Tips To Become A Pro

So you have all the basics and you're ready to D.R.I.V.E - It's time to become a master of the Undermine streets. The car really is quick, and there are some tight maneuvers to be made if you want to get around without smashing into a wall, so drifting is going to be essential. Pressing spacebar whilst moving slightly left or right, will cause you to drift into that direction of movement.

Drifting, Less is More.

This is going to be a hard lesson to learn for most people jumping into their Breaknecks, but less really is more when drifting around Undermine. It can be tempting to keep your drifts going for way longer than needed. Don't get me wrong, this is fun! For the races however, we're going to have to knuckle in and drive efficiently.

STOP!

We get it, you want to go fast, but what about when you reach your destination and go flying past, or skid out into some nearby scenery? Coming to a stop is something we have to get used to too. Simply letting go of your chosen method of moving forward, isn't enough, as your cars momentum will keep you going. Who wants to be the guy slowing down in advance to casually cruise up to their objective, not you, you want speed right!? So there are two ways you can do this effectively.

Immediate 'dismount' - You can use the eject key, to immediately leave your vehicle and lose all momentum. This is very effective when you are hurtling towards you destination at high speed, aiming directly at it.

Drift Stop - This is definitely the coolest way you can show up, especially if you aim it so you come to a stop right where you intend to. Pair this with the above tip 'less is more' for maximum effect.

To come to a drift stop, simply let go of your forward key (most people use the W key, or hold both mouse buttons down simultaneously) and then press spacebar to drift to one side, you will come to a smooth stop, even if you bypass your destination, you will be facing it so can nudge forward if needed, then dismount.

F.L.Y.

Ok so the system is called D.R.I.V.E right, but... this thing can jump, sometimes over massive distances! Do beware, you will take fall damage if you try anything crazy high. Pressing spacebar when you are moving directly forward, will cause you to jump. Once you are airborne, you can actually turn, effectively gliding whilst in the air. This seems a bit of a gimmick, but you can absolutely use this to your advantage. Jumping, especially around corners, can help you avoid some tricky bits of terrain or other obstacles.

Do a Trick! How To Do A Donut

Now we're just showing off, how do we do a donut using the G-99 Breakneck? Good question, follow these steps:

  • Move forward to build some momentum

  • Begin to drift, but stop accelerating as you do

  • Allow yourself to slow down a bit, so your donut circle becomes smaller

    • difficulty here is trying not to come to a stop

  • Once you are in a tighter drifting circle, occasionally accelerate to maintain your momentum.

    • I found just tapping 'forward' every second or so was enough to keep going.

Practice Makes Perfect

I hope these tips will serve you well when it comes to taking to the streets of Undermine in your new vehicle. Ultimately, it all comes down to practice. I personally cannot wait to see the chaos over the first few days of people getting their hands on this. Let's hope Undermine has some VERY sturdy walls. Good luck, and happy zoomies.
