Underpin? Solo Guide - Master the Nemesis Fight!

The War Within Season 2 introduces an exciting new challenge for seasoned adventurers: The Underpin, a powerful seasonal pinnacle boss found deep within the Demolition Dome delve. In this guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about locating, unlocking, and defeating The Underpin. Whether you’re tackling it for the first time or optimizing your strategy, we’ve got you covered!
Where to Find The Underpin
The Underpin resides in a special delve located in the upper level of the Demolition Dome. To find the entrance, head to Undermine at coordinates (52.38, 9.42).
Unlocking The Underpin’s Delve
The delve is available in two difficulties:
Tier 1 (? difficulty) – Unlocks when you successfully complete a Tier 7 delve with lives remaining in Season 2.
Tier 2 (?? difficulty) – Unlocks upon clearing a Tier 10 delve with lives remaining in Season 2.
Gear Up: Recommended Item Level
For Tier 1, it’s recommended that your gear is at Item Level 620 or higher to ensure you can withstand The Underpin’s relentless attacks. The fight does get significantly easier with gear. My first attempts were at 628 and I got the kill after 4 tries. Going back in at 640 ilvl made the fight a breeze, but having knowledge of the fight probably helps more, so get some practice in if you are struggling!
Setting Up Brann for Success
Best Curio Choices
These are not set in stone, use whichever you feel is best, the tank ones are what I used during my run. Pictures below are in order of this list:
If you are a DPS Spec:
Set Brann to Healer and consider using the following Curios:
Mechasaur EZ-Build Kit for reliable taunts.
L00T RAID-R to increase The Underpin’s damage taken when he get's below 90%
If you are a TANK Spec:
With a lot of self heals, consider setting Brann to DPS or Healer and using these:

Or use Three-Dimensional Bioprinter. Only comes into effect below 40% health so I would recommend the above choices first.
If you are a HEALER Spec:
Use Brann as either DPS or Tank, probably tank.. and try these curios:
Automatic Footbomb Dispenser for some extra DPS that you can control
L00T RAID-R to increase The Underpin’s damage taken when he get's below 90%
Essential Addons & Tips
To stay on top of The Underpin’s mechanics, install Deadly Boss Mods (DBM). This addon will alert you when key abilities are about to be cast, helping you react swiftly.
Eat from Brann's Cozy Campfire before the fight to get a 10 minute 5% main stat buff
Enable the interact key to kick the bombs - This is crucial and may get you the kill. Unfortunately, Underpin's mech is rather large, so when he is next to you, he can cover up a bomb that you are trying to kick. Binding the interact key to something comfortable for you to press is a game changer!
To find this, go into Options > Search for interact > find 'Interact with Target' > set a keybind for it.
Use WeakAura's for your Class/Spec, but also for Brann when set to healer, to track his potions, how many are out, the time they have left, how many current stacks you have and the time remaining on your current Heal over Time (HoT)
The Underpin’s Tier 1 (?) Abilities
Understanding The Underpin’s abilities is crucial to overcoming the fight. Here’s what you’ll be up against:
Crush – A powerful area attack that deals Physical damage and stuns players for 4 seconds.
Time Bomb Launcher – Launches 5 puntable bombs that can be used strategically.
Flamethrower – A frontal cone attack dealing continuous Fire damage.
Signal Cronies – Summons three minions with two key abilities:
Shoot – Deals unavoidable damage.
Molten Cannon – Fires a molten orb that instantly kills anyone in its path.
Recharge – The Underpin activates a shield. If not destroyed in time, he heals for 25% of his health.
Oil Spill – If you successfully break the shield, oil spills onto the battlefield, creating persistent hazards.
Defeating The Underpin: Strategy
Part 1: Avoid & Position
Dodge Crush – Watch for the telltale circle marking its impact zone and move out fast.
Stay out of Flamethrower’s frontal cone – Position yourself carefully to avoid unnecessary Fire damage.
Fight near walls or the entrance – This helps group up minions when they spawn.
When adds are up, there will be 3
Use puntable bombs to eliminate adds – Aim to hit multiple minions with a single bomb.
Prioritize adds – Their Molten Cannon ability can be deadly if left unchecked. Big beam on the floor, stay out of it and try not to cross it.
Part 3: Breaking the Shield
At every 20% health, The Underpin casts a 10-second shield. DPS it down immediately.
If the shield isn’t broken in time, he heals for 25%.
Breaking the shield spills oil—avoid standing in it as it persists for the rest of the fight.
Rotate around the room ideally, to avoid getting into a spot with too much ground clutter
Final Thoughts
The key to victory lies in positioning, effective use of bombs to take out the adds, and nuking down the shield before he heals. With proper preparation and execution, you’ll bring The Underpin to his knees and claim your well-earned rewards. Good luck!
